3-25-14- Cactus Lake |
This entry marks the first picturse of what I call Cactus Lake- but the city parks commission calls "Wetland number two". I took many pictures of this location, but this is the first one I wanted to post. I go to this spot almost every day and it gives me such peace. This used to be a Naval landing strip, then a parking lot and now is a wetland and hope to frogs and many varieties of birds. The city invested in tearing down the parking lot and restoring a natural habitat. They used old logs to stand up in the water- to invite birds to nest. To me, those logs bear a striking resemblance to cacti and yet they are ironically perched at or in the water. The reflection is wonderful, the fog often lifts just after the sun rises- just behind the right hand side of the picture- often bathing the "lake" in natural light. I have seen so many different varieties of plants and animals here. I have visited at all times of day, in all weather conditions and even wrote to the city to thank them for this restoration. Welcome to Cactus Lake.
